Delivering Advanced Cancer Care Closer to Home

A Strategic Addition to the Amherst Medical Spine

Backed by a Certificate of Need from the New York State Department of Health, this project aligns with the Town of Amherst’s broader “Medical Spine” strategy. The initiative, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic in partnership with the Amherst IDA and Amherst Chamber of Commerce, is designed to attract cutting-edge medical services and research facilities to the region. The project aims to:

  • Meet regional demand for comprehensive outpatient cancer care.
  • Provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
  • Expand the geographic footprint of one of New York’s leading healthcare institutions.Facility Services Include:
  • A full infusion treatment center
  • Advanced radiology screening and diagnostic services
  • Clinical laboratory and phlebotomy service center
  • Education and research infrastructure for cancer care providers

Economic and Community Impact

While the facility delivers vital health services, it also contributes meaningfully to Amherst’s economy, the project will:

  • Job Creation and Retention: 26.5 new full-time equivalent jobs and 25.5 jobs retained, with a combined site payroll of $5.41 million.
  • Construction Activity: 63 construction and related jobs supported throughout the build.
  • Generate significant tax revenue: An estimated $2.47  million in income taxes and $840,298 in sales taxes will be collected.

This project would have been entirely tax-exempt had it been constructed directly by Roswell Park as a nonprofit tenant. However, the public-private development structure ensures the site contributes to local tax bases while still fulfilling its healthcare mission.

Project Timeline & Partners

Advancing Cancer Care and Community Health

Roswell Park’s presence in Amherst reflects a broader commitment to health equity, regional access, and long-term innovation. With state-of-the-art services now located outside of Buffalo’s medical corridor, patients in Amherst and surrounding communities can access life-saving care more conveniently.

The facility at 203 Park Club Lane represents more than just a new building. It is a reflection of thoughtful planning, responsive policy, and the shared belief that world-class healthcare should be both local and accessible.
