Homegrown & Global: Allient Chooses Amherst for Its Next Chapter
Laying the Foundation for Long-Term Innovation
A high-precision engineering leader is doubling down on Amherst. Allient, a publicly traded global company specializing in advanced motion control systems, is investing $1.67 million to relocate and expand its global headquarters to 6400 Main Street in Williamsville. This move not only enhances the company’s long-term capabilities but also secures high-paying local jobs and strengthens Amherst’s status as a hub for innovation.

Why the Move Matters
With over 90% of its business occurring outside New York State, Allient sought a headquarters that could meet its evolving needs. After evaluating locations in Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio, the company chose to stay in Amherst thanks to local support and favorable conditions. This relocation is designed to:
- Accommodate future growth with more space and infrastructure.
- Establish a new, 1,500 sq. ft. cutting-edge engineering lab.
- Create and retain jobs in high-skill, high-wage fields.
- Strengthen the company’s global competitiveness from its New York base.
Impact Beyond the Office Walls
The economic ripple effects of Allient’s investment will be felt across the region:
- Job Creation and Retention: 54 full-time employees retained, 10 new positions added, and 125 roles supported long-term through operational growth.
- Economic Value: An average salary of $120,000 per year bolsters local income levels.
- Tax Contributions: $2.55 million in income taxes and $860,351 in ongoing sales taxes, with an immediate $146,971 in project-related sales tax revenue.
- Construction Activity: 13 jobs supported during the build-out and renovation phase.
- Innovation Investment: The company’s 2024 R&D spend reached $11 million, and the new lab will support further advancements in engineering and technology.

Rooted in Amherst, Reaching the World
Allient’s decision to keep its global headquarters in Amherst despite national competition reflects confidence in the region’s talent, infrastructure, and community. With nearly all its revenue generated outside the area, Allient brings economic opportunity into Western New York while building something truly global from right here at home.
