Medical Spine

The Amherst Medical Spine is not an office park, or a campus, or a well-defined district.

It is a wide but concentrated landscape of medical practices, providers, researchers, and manufacturers – clustered along the spine of the I-290 and extending across the Town of Amherst.

Directly serving a Town of Amherst population rivaling that of Albany or Syracuse, and offering unmatched accessibility to Southern Ontarians and others travelling from outside Amherst to seek care, the medical corridor is an ideal location for any medical practice or organization looking to locate in Western New York.

It also includes Roswell Park’s new $23 million Amherst office at 203 Park Club Lane, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Ivoclar Vivadent headquarters, Buffalo Medical Group properties, and large medical office parks like 55 Spindrift Drive.

What’s more, research and training institutions such as the University at Buffalo and Daemen University provide a nearby pool of talent for resident practices.

The corridor offers distinct benefits to attract additional medical industry growth into the area:

  • Location: Highly accessible along the I-290 where there is a variety of available office space and in proximity to potential industry partners.
  • Zoning changes: The Town has approved zoning changes relative to healthcare industry. We started with Local Law 22-2022 include changes to the parking regulations for surgical centers, and will continue to explore and make updates to the code to encourage growth in industry.
  • Streamlined Development & Construction Processes: We reviewed our processes for healthcare related development projects and identified ways to reduce the time involved in process.
  • Alternative Incentive Programs: We continue to explore economic incentives at the Town Level because state laws governing IDAs severely limit its ability to provide such incentives to projects in the healthcare sector.
